Student Recruitment Brief
The aim of The Neuroscience Research Centre is to discover novel therapies for the treatment of disorders of the central nervous system. MSD presented CK FirstStep with a brief to recruit 45 students. All required a background in science; either A Level, Undergraduate or Graduate level.
The 45 Students required were split between:
- Sandwich Students
- Gap Year Students
- Industrial Trainees
- Summer Placement Students
Candidate Attraction
The candidates were sourced from 4 separate recruitment campaigns which included:
- Advertising Response in specialist publications (New Scientist)
- Local School & College Poster Campaigns
- University Tutor Recommendations
- University Recruitment Campaigns
Interviews
- Interviews were coordinated and arranged
- Design of comprehensive interview schedules
- Referencing and screening
- Hotel and travel expenses were collated
- Presentations to explain the role of CK Associates as employers
Offer
Following interview, MSD selected the students they wanted.
- CK FirstStep contacted the students to offer them the job
- Unsuccessful applicants were contacted to make them aware they had not been selected
- Contracts were written and dispatched
- Medicals organised
- References taken
- Qualifications checked
- Identities checked (face to face)
First Day At Work
CK FirstStep run seminars on the first day to explain:
- How to book holidays
- Sickness procedures
- Disciplinary procedures
- Health and safety on site
Aftercare
- On site management
- Regular contact with employees
- Involvement in performance evaluation and personal development
